It’s the last weekend of the summer break! Even though it’s going to be mostly rainy here in Minneapolis, I plan to get out there and soak up these last few days of summer before the busy fall begins. I’m going to the Minnesota State Fair today with some friends visiting from California. We are also going to have a “Jucy Lucy” at Matt’s Bar – it will be my first time there! And tomorrow night we have reservations at Piccolo. So excited. Other than that, we’ll be hitting up record stores, thrift stores, and estate sales. And drinking at home while playing this awesome game.
I plan on making these fudgesicles at some point this weekend, because I need the taste of full blown summer to continue.
Tannaz wrote a really beautiful post about the Persian principles of eating that she learned from her mother. It was on my mind a lot yesterday as I soaked walnuts and prepared a Persian meal for a dinner party.
My friend Vanessa takes amazing photos and she posted this great looking cornbread recipe that I am going to try next weekend.
Jennifer Hess of Last Night’s Dinner has long been one of my favorite food bloggers. If you don’t know her site, allow yourself a couple hours to get lost in it. She wrote this thoughtful post on going back to her roots, writing as a record of the days that pass, of meals eaten, and resisting the profit-driven world of food blogging. I couldn’t agree more. As James Salter says, life is meals, and she captures that so well.
What are you up to this weekend? If you’re in North America, have a great Labo(u)r Day weekend!
